Ambassador LeVine, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Labor Chris Lu, and Swiss Ambassador to the U.S. Martin Dahinden join representatives of Zurich North America and Harper College to mark the official launch of an innovative, first-of-its-kind U.S. apprenticeship program for the insurance industry. Zurich North America is a participant in the U.S. Department of Labor’s Apprenticeship USA initiative that includes a network of more than 150,000 employers in more than 1,000 occupations, committed to developing a new generation of workers to help the U.S. succeed in the 21st-century economy. Zurich North America is working with Harper College to educate and train people for careers as insurance professionals, focused on underwriting and claims. Last month the first apprentices began the two-year program that splits time between on-the-job training at Zurich’s headquarters and classes at Harper College. Upon completion of the program, apprentices receive an Associate of Applied Science degree in Business Administration. Zurich has committed to training at least 100 apprentices through the program by 2020.
