On July 10, Ambassador LeVine visited a team of Google software engineers in Zurich, the largest Google engineering center outside of the United States with over 1300 employees. During the visit, Engineering Vice-President Oliver Heckmann outlined Zurich’s competitive advantage in attracting global talent, including access to top research institutions (i.e. both Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology ETHZ and EPFL), excellent infrastructure, a high standard of living, and an ecosystem with strong partners in business, start-ups, schools and associations.
Leveraging that talent, Google Zurich has already led a number of Google’s global initiatives, including mapping programs (i.e. directions in Google Maps) and the development of Content ID, a copyright management tool for right holders on platforms such as YouTube. Google is an American internet technology company that serves millions of people around the world.
