COVID-19 Emergency Appointments

Effective March 16, 2020, U.S. Embassy Bern has suspended routine consular services.

 

Services for U.S. citizens
American Citizens Services (ACS) 

Appointment slots are opened in the morning of every business day for the following week.  If you cannot find an open appointment slot, please check again the next morning.

 

We require all customers to wear a face covering; children under six years old and those unable to wear a covering for medical reasons are exempt from this requirement. Please note that we do not provide masks and you need to bring your own.

  • Emergency U.S. Passports (1 year limited validity)
    For immediate travel (Travel itinerary required)
    In order to request an emergency appointment at the U.S. Embassy Bern, please send an email with the following information:

    • Name
    • Reason for the emergency
    • Passport number
    • Passport date of expiration
    • Copy of your travel itinerary

  • Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA)
    Our citizenship unit, is ready to electronically preview your CRBA package. This process will allow us to alert you of any missing or incomplete documents, reducing the likelihood of delays after we resume regular services. You will need to appear in person when it is once again possible to do so.To submit an application for review, please follow the step-by-step instructions on the above link.


  • Special Consular Services Emergency Assistance
Emergency visa appointment requests from ONLY the following applicants will be granted:
Immigrant Visa (IV) 
Non-Immigrant Visa (NIV) 
  • Lawful permanent residents (LPR) of the United States
  • Children of a U.S. citizen or LPR
  • Spouses of U.S. citizens and LPRs
  • Parents or legal guardians of unmarried U.S. citizen or LPR children under 21 years of age
  • Sibling of a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident, provided that both are unmarried and under the age of 21
  • For additional exemptions please refer to Presidential Proclamation 9984
  • Children of a U.S. citizen or Legal Permanent Resident (LPR)
  • Spouses of U.S. citizens and LPRs
  • Parents or legal guardians of unmarried U.S. citizen or LPR children under 21 years of age
  • Foreign government officials and their immediate family members on official travel
  • C1/D visa applicants who are currently employed as a crewmember
