Chinese foreign policy, even before COVID-19, envisaged a world entering a new age, the Information Age. This is not only about information technology, however, but also about how information is interpreted, exploited, and manipulated. China’s policies in the course of COVID-19 incorporates these elements, and is aimed in part at shaping how Europe and the rest of the world perceives China, in order to influence their policies after COVID-19.

Dean Cheng is a Senior Research Fellow for Asian Studies at the Washington-based think tank The Heritage Foundation. He specializes in China’s military and foreign policy, in particular the communist regime’s relationship with its Asian neighbors and the United States.

Benno Zogg of foraus, the Swiss Forum for Foreign Policy, and Thomas Seifert from Wiener Zeitung, will moderate the discussion. Benno Zogg co-heads the Peace and Security Program at the Swiss foreign policy think tank foraus. He is also Senior Researcher at the Center for Security Studies (CSS) in Zurich. Thomas Seifert is deputy editor-in-chief of the Austrian daily Wiener Zeitung. Prior to that, he worked at the foreign desk at the Die Presse newspaper. His reporting includes the Balkans, Russia, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.
