Demonstration Alert: U.S. Embassy Bern, Switzerland (January 22, 2021)
Location: U.S. Embassy, Bern and Downtown Bern
Events: Tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, January 23, 2021, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM, local authorities expect up to 5 demonstrators to gather outside of U.S. Embassy Bern in support of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange. In the past, similar demonstrations have been small and peaceful, however, please be advised of an increased police presence at the Embassy and possible traffic disruptions during this time.
Additionally, tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, January 23, 2021, from 1:00 to 5:00 PM, local authorities expect between 200 – 400 demonstrators to gather at the Bundesplatz to demonstrate against the Swiss government’s COVID-19 policies. Additional impromptu demonstrations may arise elsewhere in Bern at this time.
As with all such gatherings, even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. There will be an increased police presence however, you should avoid the area mentioned above and check local media for updates and traffic advisories.

· Stay alert in public places, including schools, hospitals, churches, tourist locations, and transportation hubs
· Be aware of your surroundings
· Keep a low profile
