Never Again isn’t Just a Wish; It is a Command

Ambassador LeVine in Lucerne to Commemorate Holocaust Remembrance Day

On January 27th Ambassador LeVine participated in a Holocaust Remembrance Day event in Lucerne. The event, co-hosted by Ambassador LeVine, Richard Jones, E.U. Ambassador to Switzerland, Yigal Caspi Israel’s Ambassador to Switzerland, David Moran, U.K. Ambassador to Switzerland, Ilir Gjoni, Albania’s Ambassador to Switzerland, Naim Malaj, Kosovo’s Ambassador to Switzerland, and the project team of the Besa exhibition in Switzerland, commemorated the 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.

In her remarks to the audience, Ambassador LeVine called on the audience to act, saying, “‘Never Again’ isn’t just a wish; it is a command.  It means that we have a moral obligation – as nations and as individuals — to take action to spread tolerance and promote peace.”

Former Federal Councillor Elisabeth Kopp also made remarks at the event featuring the photo exhibit from Yad Vashem, “Besa: A Code of Honor,” which tells the story of Albanian Muslims who risked their lives to rescue Jews during the Holocaust. Photographer Norman Gershman also attended the event.
