Independence Day Celebration 2019

On July 2, Embassy Bern hosted its annual Independence Day celebration, commemorating the 243rd anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, which created a new nation known as the United States of America. The theme of this year’s reception was “America’s Bounty”. In attendance were Swiss government officials, including ambassadors, as well as representatives from government departments, trade associations, and businesses in Switzerland.

After the presenting of the colors by the Embassy’s detachment of U.S. Marines, Ava Hettenhausen sang the American national anthem. In his speech addressing the guests, Ambassador McMullen looked back on his 1.5 years as U.S. Ambassador in Bern. He talked about Swiss-U.S. relations and highlighted our nations’ strong economic bond and long-lasting friendship: “I would like to thank you all for helping to make our relationship strong, deep, and enduring. Relationships like ours ensure our nations will continue to be prosperous and safe in the years to come.”

After the ceremony, guests enjoyed the delicious food, and incredible jazz music by Claude Diallo Situation. We are grateful to all who could celebrate with us!
