Subject: U.S. Embassy Bern – Demonstration Alert for Geneva on June 29, 2019
 
Location: Geneva: Place des Nations and Avenue de Bude
 
Event: Police expect up to 10,000 demonstrators and counter-demonstrators to gather in Geneva on Saturday, June 29, between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., in conjunction with the Cameroonian president’s visit to Geneva.  Each demonstration is expected consist of up to 5,000 persons.  Police will be prepared to keep the two groups separate to avoid clashes between the two sides.  Media reports indicate previous smaller demonstrations in Geneva this week did become hostile.
Actions to take:
  • Avoid the areas of the demonstrations
  • Monitor local media for information about specific demonstrations
  • Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests
  • Keep a low profile
  • Follow the instructions of local authorities at all times
