The United States established diplomatic relations with Liechtenstein in 1997. The good relations between the two countries are based on close commercial interactions and common support for democracy, human rights, and free markets. The United States and Liechtenstein have signed a mutual legal assistance treaty, focused largely on jointly combating money laundering and other illegal banking activities, and a tax information exchange agreement. The United States does not have an embassy in Liechtenstein, but the U.S. Ambassador to Switzerland is also accredited to Liechtenstein.
