Dear Mr. President:

On behalf of the United States of America and the American people, I extend my best wishes to the people of Switzerland on your National Day. Switzerland is a good friend and partner to the United States, and I appreciated meeting with you in June to discuss the many areas in which our countries are cooperating to meet global challenges. Our nations are united by our common democratic values, our respect for rule of law, and our commitment to protecting human rights, as well as by our close trade and commercial relationships.

The United States deeply values Switzerland’s role as our protecting power in Iran, and I want to thank you again for Switzerland hosting my Summit with Russian President Putin. Switzerland’s longstanding role in promoting international dialogue is an invaluable contribution to global diplomacy and to peace. Switzerland has continuously sought to improve humanity’s condition, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, by supporting democratic institutions, delivering humanitarian aid, offering your good offices to help resolve conflicts, and supporting economic development all over the world.

I wish you and the people of Switzerland good health in the year ahead and look forward to working with you to expand our collaboration as we seek to promote peace, stability, and economic opportunity around the world.

Joseph R. Biden Jr.
