Subject: Security Alert – Ongoing Security Threat in Bern, Switzerland – U. S. Embassy Bern, Switzerland (February 14, 2023)
 
Location: Bern, Switzerland – Bundesplatz (Federal Palace)
 
Event: The U.S. Embassy in Bern informs U.S. citizens that there is an ongoing large-scale police operation occurring in the vicinity of the Bundesplatz in Bern.  Public transportation has been temporarily suspended and businesses in the area have been evacuated.  U.S. citizens in the proximity of the Bundesplatz should seek shelter and follow guidance from local authorities.
 
Actions to Take: – If in the area of the incident seek secure shelter
– Avoid the area(s) of the incident
– Follow the instructions of local authorities at all times
– Keep a low profile
– Avoid crowds and demonstrations
– Always carry a cell phone as a means of communication
– Contact concerned family members in the U.S. to advise them of your safety
– Monitor local media for information about specific demonstrations
