Passport Services

Returning to the United States on an Expired U.S. Passport

If you are overseas and your passport expired on or after January 1, 2020, you may be able to use your expired passport to return directly to the United States until December 31, 2021.  See this page for more information. 

Beginning June 6, 2021, U.S. Embassy Bern, Switzerland is accepting online fee payments for adult U.S. passport renewal applications. Paying online allows you to mail your application to the U.S. Embassy without the need to apply in person. For more information:  https://ch.usembassy.gov/u-s-passport-renewal-by-mail/
