28 Swiss Companies – one of the largest delegations from Europe – to Join Global Business Leaders and U.S. Government Officials at Top Investment Event
June 19, 2017, Bern – A total of 36 Swiss business leaders representing 28 companies from a variety of industries across Switzerland are travelling to Washington D.C. to participate in the SelectUSA Investment Summit (Summit), June 18-20. The Summit is the highest profile event to connect global companies and U.S. investment officials to facilitate business investment in the United States.
“We are entering a new period of economic revival in the United States,” said U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross. “This is an exciting time for global companies to explore the U.S. market and find partners that can help them create a footprint, expand operations, and achieve growth. There is no better place to make those connections than this Summit.”
The diverse Swiss delegation, one of the largest from Europe, stretches across industry sectors, regions and business models. From established firms like ABB, with major operations in the U.S., to startups like Zurich-based QualySense AG, firms are attending the Summit to take advantage of the benefits of doing business in the U.S. (See company list below.) Representatives of five Swiss firms are slated to speak at the Summit, sharing their insights and experiences on apprenticeships and workforce development, the tax environment, intellectual property protection, and other topics.
Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Désirée Baron will lead the delegation from Switzerland. “The large number of Swiss companies choosing to participate in the Summit is a testament to the strong and deep economic ties between the United States and Switzerland,” said Tara Feret Erath, Charge d’Affaires, U.S. Embassy, Bern. “Swiss firms recognize the benefit of investing in the United States. The SelectUSA Summit offers an excellent opportunity to network and expedite weeks of work in an efficient three day format.”
Switzerland is the seventh-largest source of FDI in the United States, and the largest source of investment in research and development, with a total stock of over $143 billion in 2015, creating close to 500,000 jobs. In addition, 30 Swiss companies are expanding or implementing Swiss-style apprenticeships at their facilities in the U.S, creating new opportunities for American workers.
