Diplomatic, Official and Service Passports (Non-State/Non-DOD)

Services are provided at the Consular Agency Geneva and at ​​​​​​​the American Citizen Services (ACS) Unit at the U.S. Embassy Bern ​​​​​​​by appointment only.

Important: There are no longer any consular services available at the U.S. Mission in Geneva.

 


Diplomatic, Official and Service Passports

 

This service is free of charge for U.S. government personnel, Peace Corps volunteers, or their dependents stationed or traveling officially in a foreign country.

Diplomatic, Official and Service Passports are issued by the Special Issuance Agency (SIA) in Washington, DC.
The Consular Agency Geneva and ACS Unit in Bern serve as passport acceptance posts and forwards the application for processing to the SIA Office.

It is crucial that you submit your application exactly as outlined in the instructions below based on your Agency. Failing to do so may result in delays and/or you may need to schedule an additional appointment.

Important – Before you start the process, please remember the following:

 

  1. Your application form needs to be completed through the passport wizard. Hand written forms are not acceptable.
  2. The mailing address needs to be exactly as outlined in these SIA instructions in order for your passport to be delivered at your location.
  3. ​​​​​​​Verify that the required authorization documents for your agency are included.

Complete the passport application using the Passport Wizard
Complete the form and print it out.

Please pay close attention to the mailing address per SIA instructions.

Handwritten forms are not accepted. 

Submit your most recent official/diplomatic passport
Your original passport may be returned to you upon request while the application is pending.

Include One U.S. passport sized (2x2inch) 
Taken within the last 6 month, white background

Provide your authorization:

PCS:  Submit a Letter of Authorization (LOA) from your agency’s authorized signatory AND one (1) copy of your travel orders.  Submit all documents as single-sided copies.  If your travel date is within two (2) weeks, you must submit a copy of your travel itinerary for expedited processing.

TDY:  Submit a Letter of Authorization (LOA) from your agency’s authorized signatory.  Submit all documents as single-sided copies.
For Diplomatic Passports: Submit a single-sided copy of finalized travel orders with the application.
