U.S. Scholar Presents Research on Decision Making

U.S. Embassy Bern invited philosophy professor Dr. Jesse Prinz, of the City University of New York, to speak at a number of venues in Switzerland before his participation in an academic conference.  At Impact Hub Bern, he led a vibrant discussion with audience members about the influence of ethics and morals in marketing and business decisions; at the Gymnasium am Münsterplatz in Basel, a high school, he talked to students about the importance of morals and emotions in decision making. Prinz’s talks raised awareness of how decision making – whether in business or private life – is not just a question of free will but also of the influence of many outside factors. For the concluding event in his speaker program, Prinz participated in the Empathies conference hosted by the European Society for Literature, Science and the Arts at the University of Basel and delivered a keynote speech, “Genealogy of Empathy.”
